The “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning in Bucharest is the oldest and most important academic institution in this field in Romania. The first form of architectural education was legally established in 1864. In 2000, the ”Ion Mincu” Insitute of Architecture became the ”Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning, thus reflecting the broadening of the educational offer after 1990.
The Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest offers several Bachelor, Master’s level and Doctorate degree programmes, leading to different specializations in the fields of Architecture and Urbanism. The Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes are coordinated by the three Faculties of the University: the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Interior Architecture (founded in 2003), and the Faculty of Urban Planning (founded in 1997). The Doctorate degree courses are managed by the Doctoral Schools with core subjects in the fields of Architecture and Urbanism, with the latter established in 2016.
UAUIM has relations with more than 80 schools of architecture in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States. The Tempus program and subsequently the Erasmus program have facilitated the exchanges of students and teachers between the UAUIM and more than 50 schools of architecture in Europe. Each year a large number of UAUIM students benefit from international mobilities for study and practical training in design offices, in many countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. UAUIM has a very active role in the European Association of Architectural Education (EAAE) and the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE), while also being a member of other international associations, such as AESOP – European Association of Urban Planning Schools.
UAUIM is coordinating the realization of Output 5 in the InCLIMATE project – Climate Resilience Integrated concept map. Teachers from the Urban Planning and Territorial Development and Urban Planning and Design departments are involved in the project’s team.
